Hot 100: Katy Perry’s “This is How We Do” Enters Top 40

Reaching the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100? It’s just how Katy Perry does.

“This is How We Do,” the fifth release from “PRISM,” becomes the latest Perry single to vault into the Top 40 of Billboard’s weekly Hot 100 chart. The song climbs twenty one places to #36 on the latest edition of the listing.

In reaching the Top 40, “How We Do” keeps the pop superstar’s impressive streak intact. Since debuting (as Katy Perry) with #1 hit “I Kissed a Girl” in 2008, she has never failed to send an official single into the Top 40.

“Thinking of You,” the worst performing official Katy Perry single to date, peaked at #29 in 2009. “This is How We Do” should have no trouble cruising past that mark.

In addition to reaching the Hot 100’s Top 40 seventeen times with her own official singles, Perry also reached a peak of #37 with her Timbaland collaboration “If We Ever Meet Again” and one of #34 with her instant gratification “PRISM” track “Walking on Air.”

— Also new to the Top 40 this week: Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off,” which starts its run at #1, and Rich Gang’s “Lifestyle (featuring Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan),” which ascends to #38.
