Ahead of an official statement from US President Barack Obama, multiple sources reported Sunday evening that Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind behind the September 11, 2011 attacks, is dead.
Contrary to reports that had emerged online, President Obama said that Bin Laden was killed as a result of a US-led strike that was orchestrated this weekend. Designed to minimize civilian casualties, the operation occurred at a compound in Pakistan. Bin Laden was killed, and the US recovered his body.
