“Our Idiot Brother” Flops at Weekend Box Office, But All Slow Due to Hurricane

Thanks to what sources are saying could have been a $25 million impact of Hurricane Irene on the East Coast, nothing truly excited at the weekend box office.

But some disappointed more than others–and “Our Idiot Brother” led that charge.

The decently-reviewed Paul Rudd vehicle could only muster $6.6 million for a fifth place weekend finish. The film was never expected to be a hit, but forecasts earlier in the week were eyeing a bow in the $9-11 million range.

Holdover “The Help” again claimed the box office crown with $14.3 million, although its take was a bit less than some expected. Still, the unlikely success story will cross the $100 million domestic mark by the next week’s end.

“Columbiana” landed in second, scoring $10.3 million. “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” debuted in third with $8.7 million, topping “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” which pulled $8.6 million.
