“Batman V Superman” Suffers Big Decline, Still Wins Weekend Box Office

Adversely affected by poor reviews and less than stellar word-of-mouth, “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” endured a significant drop in its second weekend of release.

It still easily ranked as America’s #1 film.

Per studio estimates, “Dawn Of Justice” will gross $52.4 million this weekend. Down a hefty 68% from the opening weekend gross, the figure still keeps the film comfortably ahead of the pack.

“Zootopia,” which repeats as #2, will earn an estimated $20.0 million this weekend.

“My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” follows at #3 with $11.1 million, while new release “God’s Not Dead 2” debuts at #4 on the strength of $8.1 million.

“Miracles From Heaven” takes #5 with $7.6 million.

The aforementioned “God’s Not Dead 2” was the only new release to open on more than 2,000 screens. The next-closest thing to a new wide release was “Meet The Blacks,” which takes #8 on the strength of the $4.1 million it will gross from just over 1,000 screens.
