Taylor Swift has selected a new label home.
Monday morning, news broke that Swift has signed a new worldwide deal with Universal Music Group. Republic Records will be her label home in the United States.
While this may mark the start of a fresh, multi-album deal, the situation is not entirely new for Swift. As part of a strategic partnership with her former label Big Machine Records, Republic had already been involved in promotion for Swift’s music.
In discussing the deal on Instagram, Swift noted the importance of seeing “eye to eye with a label regarding the future of our industry.” She also confirmed that she will own all of her masters from this point forward.
Swift additionally discussed a critical deal point during her negotiation with UMG.
“As part of my new contract with Universal Music Group, I asked that any sale of their Spotify shares result in a distribution of money to their artists, non-recoupable,” wrote Swift. “They have generously agreed to do this, at what they believe will be much better terms than paid out previously by other major labels.”
Swift also offered a thank-you to Big Machine head Scott Borchetta.
