Update: Citing time-adjusted ratings data, CBS confirms that the 2017 Grammy Awards ceremony outdrew the 2016 edition.

According to the network, Sunday’s show drew a 7.8 adults 18-49 rating and an average of 26.05 million total viewers. The numbers top the 7.7 rating and 24.95 million viewer mark posted by the 2016 installment.

Since the 2016 installment aired on a Monday, some may prefer a comparison to the 2015 Grammys. That show drew a stronger 8.3 adults 18-49 rating but an average audience of only 24.8 million.

Not simply up year-over-year on TV, the 2017 (59th Annual) Grammy Awards also posted big digital gains. CBS says total time spent on its digital platforms was up 94% over last year. The network also set a record for daily sign-ups on its AllAccess service.

Based on very early ratings data, CBS’ coverage of the 2017 Grammy Awards ceremony drew a similar household audience to the 2016 edition.

According to metered market data posted by Programming Insider, Sunday’s show drew a 16.0 overnight household rating. Last year’s edition, which aired on a Monday, drew a 16.1.

Airing on a Sunday, the 2015 show scored a 16.7.

Because this year’s show aired live on the west coast, the “fast national” ratings that arrive at 11AM ET will not accurately reflect the show’s performance. In addition to only accounting for the primetime portion of the broadcast, the “fast nationals” will be based on what aired from 8-11PM PT on the west coast rather than the correct 5-8PM window.

CBS will likely order time-adjusted ratings; those should emerge this afternoon.

Per final broadcast data, last year’s show drew a 7.7 adults 18-49 rating and 24.95 million total viewers.
