“Interstellar,” “Big Hero 6” Dominate Friday Box Office

Friday’s box office receipts assure that we are watching a two-movie race this weekend.

They do not, however, necessarily reveal which of those films will end up the victor.

While “Interstellar” opened ahead of “Big Hero 6,” the latter’s appeal with matinee-goers might allow it to cliam the lead before cinemas close on Sunday.

As far as Friday goes, “Interstellar” earned $17.0 million, while “Hero” grabbed $15.8 million.

Other top five films included “Ouija” ($1.9 million, #3), “Gone Girl” ($1.9 million, #4) and “Nightcrawler” ($1.7 million, #5).
