To the surprise of no one, “Wonder Woman” dominated the Friday box office in the United States.

The superhero adaption earned $38.9 million in its first day of release. The figure, which more than quadruples that of the #2 film, positions “Wonder Woman” for an opening weekend haul in the $90-105 million range.

Fellow newcomer “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie” took second place Friday. It earned $8.0 million.

“Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” took third place with $6.3 million, while a Friday gross of $2.7 million positioned “Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 2” in fourth.

“Baywatch,” Friday’s #5 film, added $2.6 million to its total.
