“Kick Ass 2” Falls Short at Box Office, “Jobs,” “Paranoia” Bomb

Already on a slow trajectory after Friday’s lukewarm performance, “Kick Ass 2” ended up landing on an even more disappointing total at the weekend box office.

The sequel, which seemed to exist without overwhelming public demand, earned $13.6 million for a mere fourth place finish. Down from the near-$20 million debut weekend for the original “Kick Ass,” the total is an irrefutable letdown.

Less disappointing was the weekend haul for “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.” The decently-reviewed film earned $25.0 million for an easy first place victory, besting “We’re The Millers” (#2, $17.8 million) and “Elysium” (#3, $13.6 million) in the process.

“Planes” followed “Kick Ass” with a $13.4 million finish for fourth place.

Outside of the top five existed two major box office disappoints. “Jobs,” the first, earned only $6.7 million for seventh place, while “Paranoia” was only good for $3.5 million and thirteenth place.
