“Big Hero 6” Charges Past “Interstellar” for Box Office Victory

After forfeiting Friday to the Christopher Nolan-directed “Interstellar,” “Big Hero 6” leveraged wins on Saturday and Sunday to score a weekend box office victory.

The animated Disney release claimed $56.2 million between Friday and Sunday. “Interstellar” settled for $50.0 million.

The two films were the only to make an impact whatsoever this weekend.

“Gone Girl,” the third place release, earned just $6.1 million. “Ouija” followed with $6.1 million, while “St. Vincent” scooped up fifth place with $5.7 million.
