“Steve Jobs” Disappoints as “The Martian” Takes #1 at Friday Box Office

While it had been performing well as a platform release, “Steve Jobs” did not made a strong splash in its opening day of wide availability

“Steve Jobs,” which expanded to 2,493 screens, earned a mere $2.4 million at the Friday box office. That positioned the film at #6 on the Friday chart.

Leading the Friday race was “The Martian.” The hit film, which slipped to #2 last week, took the Friday crown on the strength of $4.4 million.

“Goosebumps,” last week’s winner, followed with $4.0 million. New releases “The Last Witch Hunter” (#3, $3.8 million) and “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” (#4, $3.5 million) followed, while “Bridge of Spies” (#5, $3.3 million) completed the Top 5.
