“Thor: The Dark World” Tops Original, Dominates Weekend Box Office

Its margin of growth over its predecessor was notable.

Its margin of victory over the rest of the weekend box office was astounding.

Though it is no “Iron Man,” the “Thor” franchise proved itself immensely worthy of respect. “The Dark World” earned an impressive $86.1 million at the weekend box office.

Up from the $65.7 million earned by 2011’s “Thor” in its first weekend of release, the total enjoyed a dominant margin of victory over this weekend’s number two performer.

“Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa,” that film, earned just $11.3 million. “Free Birds” and “Last Vegas” followed with $11.2 million and $11.1 million, respectively.

“Ender’s Game,” last week’s number one, settled for fifth this weekend. Its $10.3 million gross represented a 62% drop from last weekend’s debut.
