In the epitome of a predictable outcome, “Captain Marvel” cruised to victory at the US weekend box office.
The film tops the weekend chart with an estimated $153.0 million in US receipts. Easily the weekend’s biggest haul, the tally ranks as the #7 all-time opening for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
Only “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Black Panther,” “Avengers: Age Of Ultron,” “Captain America: Civil War,” and “Iron Man 3” started stronger.
“How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,” which topped the past two charts, falls to #2 this weekend. It added $14.7 million, bringing its cumulative total to $119.7 million.
“Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral” slips one spot to #3 with $12.1 million (cume now $45.9 million), while “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part” holds at #4 with $3.8 million (cume now $97.1 million).
Down two places, “Alita: Battle Angel” takes #5 with $3.2 million (cume now $78.3 million).
