“Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” lands higher than “Skyscraper” on the US Friday box office chart.
The former takes #1 with $16.7 million in opening day receipts. The latter grabs #2 with $9.3 million.
“Hotel Transylvania 3” actually set a new opening day high mark for the franchise, although analysts do not expect it to perform as well as the previous two films did on Saturday and Sunday. It should still close the weekend with a $42-46 million haul — and a #1 ranking on the US chart.
“Hotel Transylvania 2” earned $13.3 million on its first day en route to an opening weekend tally of $48.5 million. “Hotel Transylvania” posted an opening day figure of $11.0 million and an opening weekend gross of $42.5 million.
“Skyscraper” is likely pacing for $22-26 million, which may result in a #3 position on this weekend chart. “Ant-Man And The Wasp,” which took third place Friday ($8.4 million), may move ahead by the end of the weekend (projected for $26-30 million).
“Incredibles 2” ($4.6 million, #4) and “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” ($4.4 million, #5) close out Friday’s Top 5.
