Critically acclaimed “Ford v Ferrari” will cruise to victory at the US weekend box office.

The new film ruled Friday with just under $11 million in receipts. The solid opening day tally positions the film for an opening weekend in the $28-32 million range.

“Charlie’s Angels” took second place Friday with $3.2 million, but it may sink to third by the end of the weekend. Current projections have the film debuting with just $7.5-9.0 million. Such a figure would even miss the film’s modest, low-teens forecast and thus make for a disappointing first weekend.

“Midway” took second at the Friday box office with $2.5 million, but it could move up to #3 with $8.2-9.5 million by the end of the weekend.
