“Aquaman” retained its #1 position at the Friday, January 4 box office.

The film added another $9.3 million to its haul. Based on that performance, it should earn about $28-32 million over the full weekend. Such a figure would thrust the film comfortably past the $250 million cumulative mark.

“Escape Room,” the only major new release, took second place Friday. The film earned $7.7 million on opening day, positioning itself for a weekend haul in the $16-19 million range.

“Mary Poppins Returns” grabbed third place with $5.1 million; it should post a weekend tally in the $15-19 million range.

“Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” (#4 | $4.1 million Friday, weekend projection of $12-15 million) and “BumbleBee” (#5, $3.9 million Friday, weekend projection of $12-14 million) completed Friday’s Top 5.
