“Deadpool 2” predictably dominated the US Friday box office.

The sequel generated an impressive $53.3 million in its first day of release, which marks a new single-day record for an R-rated film. “It,” which held the previous record, earned $50.4 million in its first day.

The question now becomes whether “Deadpool 2” can break the opening weekend record for an R-rated film. Predecessor “Deadpool” holds that record of $132.4 million.

Analysts have “Deadpool 2” finishing the weekend in the $128-135 million range, so it definitely has a shot at the milestone.

“Avengers: Infinity War,” Friday’s #2 film, added $7.2 million to its monstrous gross.

New release “Book Club” took third place with $4.7 million, while “Life Of The Party” grabbed fourth with $2.2 million.

“Breaking In,” the day’s #5 film, earned $1.9 million.

— “Show Dogs,” the weekend’s other major new release, took sixth place with $1.4 million.
