For the first time since its release, “Beauty And The Beast” lost a daily US box office battle.

New release “The Boss Baby” took #1 at the Friday US box office, grossing $15.5 million in its opening day. “Beauty And The Beast,” the day’s #2 film, earned $13.0 million.

The race will be very close, but prognosticators currently believe “The Boss Baby” will remain in first place through the close of the weekend.

As for Friday, new release “Ghost In The Shell” took third place with $7.7 million. “Saban’s Power Rangers,” last week’s #2 film, was #4 Friday with $4.0 million, while “Kong: Skull Island” grabbed fifth place on the strength of its $2.4 million.
