The critically acclaimed “Logan” got off to a dominant start at the US box office.

The film earned an impressive $33.0 million Friday. Not simply head-and-shoulders above its competition, the figure also bests the $20.7 million earned by 2013’s “The Wolverine” in its first day of release.

“Get Out,” last weekend’s winner, was #2 Friday with $8.0 million. While the figure may pale in comparison to that posted by “Logan,” it actually represents very impressive week-over-week retention. It is only 26% below the $10.834 million earned by “Get Out” in its debut last Friday.

“The Shack” took #3 on Friday with $5.5 million in its first day of release. “The LEGO Batman Movie” (#4, $2.5 million) and the new “Before I Fall” (#5, $1.7 million) completed Friday’s Top 5.
