“Kung Fu Panda 3” Tops “Hail, Caesar,” Stays #1 at Box Office; “Choice,” “PPZ” Debut

While down 49.1% from last weekend’s debut figure, “Kung Fu Panda 3” remains #1 at the weekend box office.

The animated film earned an estimated $21.0 million in its second weekend of release, which gave it a comfortable edge over the rest of the pack. New release “Hail, Caesar!,” which represented its closest competition, earns #2 on the strength of $11.4 million in first weekend receipts.

“The Revenant” takes third with $7.1 million, while “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” grabs fourth courtesy $6.9 million. The weekend tally thrusts “Force” past the $900 million mark — and to a new cumulative US total of $906.0 million.

New release “The Choice” debuts at #5 with a modest $6.1 million. Fellow newcomer “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” is even quieter at #6 with $5.2 million.
