“Spectre” Remains Weekend Box Office Champion; “The Coopers,” “The 33” Start Modestly

Absent meaningful competition from the weekend’s new releases, “Spectre” had no problem repeating as box office champion.

The latest Bond film earned an estimated $35.4 million in its second weekend of release. Enough to bring the film’s cume to $130.7 million, it also gave the film a comfortable lead over the remainder of the pack.

Again the runner-up, “The Peanuts Movie” earned $24.2 million in weekend two.

New release “Love The Coopers” followed with $8.4 million, while “The Martian” earned #4 on the strength of $6.7 million.

“The 33,” another new release, completes the weekend’s Top 5. Its #5 ranking is attributable to $5.8 million in receipts.

Other new releases: Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (#8, $2.4 million, 286 screens) and “My All American” (#12, $1.4 million, 1,565 screens)
