“Hotel Transylvania 2” Easily Tops Friday Box Office, “The Intern” Follows

In addition to besting its predecessor’s opening day mark, “Hotel Transylvania 2” comfortably outperformed its competition.

It was Friday’s #1 film.

The animated film earned $13.3 million in its first day of release. Up from the $11.0 million earned by 2012’s “Hotel Transylvania,” the tally more than doubles that achieved by this Friday’s closest competitor.

“The Intern,” that competitor, earned $6.2 million during its opening day.

“Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials” ($4.1 million) followed in third, while “Everest” (#4, #4.0 million) and “Black Mass” (#5, $3.5 million) completed the Top 5.

Launched in 1,540 theaters, new release “The Green Inferno” was Friday’s #7 film. It earned $1.5 million.
