“Insidious Chapter 3” Edges “Spy” at Friday Box Office, “Entourage” Lands at #4

Insidious Chapter 3 [Focus]

Insofar as horror films tend to be front-loaded, “Insidious Chapter 3” is not expected to win the overall weekend box office.

It did, however, claim victory in the Friday race.

The latest “Insidious” grossed $10.4 million at the Friday box office. Fellow newcomer “Spy,” which many peg as the weekend winner, followed closely with $10.3 million.

“San Andreas,” last week’s winner, placed third on the strength of its $7.7 million. That gave it a significant edge over fourth-place finisher “Entourage,” which added $3.7 million to its total Friday.

Since launching on Wednesday, the “Entourage” movie has earned $11.1 million. It is not expected to crack $20 million by the time Sunday draws to a close.

With $2.6 million in Friday receipts, “Pitch Perfect 2” claimed #5.
