“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” Dominates Weekend Box Office

Slightly short of that earned by “Captain America: Winter Soldier” earlier this spring, the $92 million opening weekend haul for “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” was nonetheless enough for a dominant first place finish.

“The Other Woman,” the next best performer at the weekend box office, drew just $14.2 million.

Making the loss to “Captain America” even more palatable is the fact that the film earned a whopping $277 million from international markets.

Joining “Spider-Man” and “The Other Woman” in the domestic top five were “Heaven is for Real” ($8.7 million), the aforementioned “Captain America” ($7.8 million) and “Rio 2” ($7.6 million).

Thanks to its weekend take, “Rio 2” marches past the $100 million mark to a domestic total of $106.4 million.
