It will not be four weeks on top for “Captain America: Winter Soldier.” Critically panned romantic comedy “The Other Woman” defeated the comic book film to claim a victory at the weekend box office.
“Woman,” which stars Leslie Mann, Cameron Diaz, Kate Upton and Nicki Minaj, landed at number one on the strength of $24.7 million. “Soldier” settled for second with $16.0 million.
“Heaven is for Real” ($13.8 million), “Rio 2” ($13.7 million) and newcomer “Brick Mansions” ($9.6 million) completed the top five.
Unable to compensate for last week’s weak debut, “Transcendence” had a very disappointing second weekend. It earned just $4.1 million for sixth place. New film “The Quiet Ones” followed in seventh with a bomb-worthy $4 million.
