“Frozen” soundtrack gem “Let it Go” was the only one to win an Oscar, but all four Best Song Nominees are riding high after Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony.
Three are in the top ten of iTunes’ overall single sales chart.
It was already number one, but after receiving exposure during ABC’s awards broadcast, Pharrell’s “Happy” has widened its leadership gap. According to DSD, it is currently selling at 2.7x the pace of Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse (featuring Juicy J)” and John Legend’s “All of Me,” which are going back-and-forth between second and third place.
Idina Menzel’s “Let it Go,” which took home the Oscar for Best Song, has advanced into the top five.
Because “Happy” and “Let it Go” were resonating with buyers prior to Sunday’s ceremony, their gains–while significant commercially–do not necessarily look colossal in terms of chart rankings.
The gains for fellow nominees “Ordinary Love” and “The Moon Song” are impressive under both criteria.
U2’s “Love,” which comes from the “Mandela” soundtrack, has ascended into the top ten of the iTunes single sales chart. At press time, the song had gone as high as #8 on the digital retailer’s list.
Performed as a duet between Karen O and Ezra Koenig, “Moon,” from the “Her” soundtrack, had lept to number twenty four by press time.
