“Ride Along” Cruises To Box Office Victory, “Jack Ryan” Opens Modestly

As a supporting actor, Kevin Hart was unable to attract moviegoers for Christmas Day flop “Grudge Match.”

As the headliner, he caused audiences to race to the theaters for new release “Ride Along.”

“Ride Along,” starring Hart and Ice Cube, cruised to a dominant box office victory Friday. The film, which earned #14.5 million Friday, is also pacing for clear three- and four-day Martin Luther King weekend victories.

Given its strong reviews and word-of-mouth, “Lone Survivor”‘s 54% week-over-week drop Friday was surprisingly high. But its $6.7 million take this Friday night was enough to claim second at the box office; new release “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” placed third with a modest $5.4 million.

Fellow new releases “The Nut Job” and “Devil’s Due” also underwhelmed with $4.8 million and $3.5 million, respectively.
