Warner Brothers finally has a star for its upcoming film adaptation of “Green Lantern,” and the name came right off the short list of names that had circulated the industry in recent weeks.
Variety reported late Friday that after a long period of consideration and speculation, Ryan Reynolds has been selected to fill the role. Reynolds, previously best known for his turn as Van Wilder, broke out as a top Hollywood actor this summer with successful performances as Deadpool in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and as a principal opposite Sandra Bullock in successful “chick flick” “The Proposal.”
Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto were among the other Hollywood names considered for the role.
Martin Campbell will direct the comic adaptation; without a budget locked down, production is not expected to begin until January.
What.
Okay, so its not entirely Ryan Reynold’s fault that Deadpool sucked so bad in X-Men: Origins (although I’m not much of a Marvel fan, from what I’ve heard they changed the character drastically from the comics), but still…Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan? Come on.
What about the guy who played George Kirk in the first five minutes of Star Trek? He had the Hal Jordan look. Or how about Nathan Fillion? A bit on the older side, perhaps, but he’d be perfect in terms of looks and personality. Plus he already has that cocky pilot thing down from his role in Serenity.
Come on, DC. You need something besides Batman that doesn’t suck on the big screen. Don’t botch up GL.
