Nate Ruess’ “Nothing Without Love” Arrives at Pop, Hot AC, Alt Radio

As Jack Antonoff continues to enjoy success and acclaim for his Bleachers project, fellow fun. member Nate Ruess begins a solo run of his own.

“Nothing Without Love,” the debut solo release from the current fun. and former The Format lead singer, was serviced to pop, hot adult contemporary and alternative radio in conjunction with its official release Monday morning. According to PlayMPE, it formally impacts all three formats this week.

While Bleachers finds Antonoff channeling the essences of Bruce Springsteen and new wave, “Nothing Without Love” lands in considerably more familiar territory. Steadier in production and more straightforward in instrumental texture than the songs associated with fun., the track nonetheless features the lyrical sensibility, soaring vocals and dramatic (if bombastic at times) composition viewed as staples of his work with the Grammy-winning band.

The first single from his debut solo album, “Nothing Without Love” is not, however, the first track to credit Ruess as a solo artist.

Prior to the explosion of fun., Ruess appeared as a featured artist on tracks for Straylight Run, Gym Class Heroes and Anthony Green. In the wake of his band’s breakthrough, he contributed to P!nk’s smash “Just Give Me a Reason” and Eminem’s “Headlights.”
