Ratings Update: Super Bowl XLIX is TV’s Most-Watched Program Ever

Update: Per time adjusted fast national data, Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIX ranks as the most-watched program in television history.

The game, which was a nail-biter between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, drew 114.4 million viewers. It tops the 112.2 million drawn by last year’s Super Bowl, which was a record-setting number at the time.

The game’s viewership reached a peak of 120.8 million during the 9:45PM – 10PM ET segment.

As if there were any doubt, NBC confirmed Monday morning that Super Bowl XLIX, which was a tightly contested battle between the #1-seeded New England Patriots and #1-seeded Seattle Seahawks, drew a record number in the overnight metered market ratings.

According to NBC, the game averaged a 49.7/72 overnight household rating. From 8PM ET on, every half hour averaged at least a 50 rating. The peak came during the 10-10:15PM ET portion, when NBC’s broadcast drew a whopping 52.9/73 rating.

The previous ratings high came in 2013, when the 49ers-Ravens game drew a 48.1/71. Last year’s Broncos-Seahawks matchup was good for a 47.6/70.

Leading out of NBC’s Super Bowl coverage, “The Blacklist” drew a 13.5/24.
