Update: The post-Super Bowl surge continues for Missy Elliott.

“Work It,” her highest-charting Super Bowl number, is up to #4 on the iTunes all-genre single sales chart. “Get Ur Freak On” is up to #6, while “Lose Control (featuring Ciara and Fat Man Scoop)” is up to #12.

=============

As one of Katy Perry’s two special guests, Missy Elliott showcased three songs during Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime show.

Benefiting from the nostalgia factor, rave reviews for her moment on the show and a strategic $0.69 discount, all three of those songs are in the top 20 on the iTunes single sales chart.

Missy’s “Work It” leads the way at #12, while “Get Ur Freak On” and “Lose Control (featuring Ciara and Fat Man Scoop)” follow at #14 and #17, respectively.

No song by halftime show headliner Katy Perry claims a better position on the chart. Her highest-charting singles include “Firework” (#38), “Roar” (#39) and “Dark Horse (featuring Juicy J)” (#45).

The comparison between the Missy and Perry songs is certainly not an apples-to-apples one. In addition to being discounted, the three Missy Elliott emerged in a considerably less mature digital music era and thus exist in far fewer iTunes libraries. Insofar as Perry’s key singles have all commanded multi-platinum digital certifications from the RIAA, they are currently subject to a much lower sales ceiling.

Still, in pushing all three songs into the iTunes top 20, Missy left little doubt about the impact of her Super Bowl appearance.
