Anticipation for what turned out to be one of dramatic television’s most engaging, intense sequences in years propelled “Homeland” to series-high viewership on Sunday.
According to Showtime, Sunday’s “Homeland,” the fifth of the current second season, attracted 2.07 million viewers for its premiere telecast. Up 19% from the prior week’s number, that improved tally marks an all-time high for the show.
The encore telecast brought the show’s nightly viewership to 2.29 million, also a high for the show.
Built around Carrie (Clarie Danes) and the CIA’s interrogation of traitorous soldier Sergeant Nicolas Brody (Damian Lewis), the episode received rave reviews from critics.
“Dexter,” the other piece of Showtime’s Sunday lineup, delivered its best numbers since the season premiere. Episode five garnered 2.28 million viewers for the first-run episode and 2.81 million for the evening.
