“How I Met Your Mother” Ratings Surge, “Two and a Half Men” Jumps

Not every CBS comedy was Halloween-themed Monday, but that did not stop viewers from flocking to The Eye for humor. Three of the network’s four half-hour sitcoms made impressive gains over last week’s ratings.

Leading the charge was a Halloween-edition of “How I Met Your Mother,” which lifted to a 3.7 adults 18-49 Nielsen rating with 9.0 million viewers. Lead-out “Rules of Engagement” shared some of the wealth, jumping to a 3.4 rating with 8.8 million watching.

Even though the 9PM comedies had to oppose NBC’s “The Women of SNL” special rather than “The Event” (similar young adult-rating with a 2.0 and 5.2 million viewers for the hour, but the “SNL” special was clearly drawing more comedy fans), “Two and a Half Men,” certainly not hurt by buzz over the most recent Charlie Sheen incident, improved to a night’s best 4.7 rating with 13.6 million. “Mike & Molly” was even with a 3.6 and 10.9 million viewers.

Though not a comedy, CBS’ closer “Hawaii 5-0” managed gains as well, improving to a 3.0 rating with 10.6 million.
