Liam Neeson Replaces Mel Gibson in “The Hangover Part II”

Variety reported Friday that Liam Neeson has already been tapped to replace Mel Gibson in anticipated upcoming comedy “The Hangover Part II.”

Shortly after being confirmed for a cameo as a tattoo artist, the controversial Gibson was pulled from the part. Director Todd Phillips attributed the move to a lack of support from the sequel’s cast and crew.

Neeson will now step into the role. “Hangover” star Bradley Cooper, who worked with Neeson on “The A-Team,” extended the invitation.

“I just got a call to do a one day shoot on ‘Hangover 2’ as a tattooist in Thailand, and that’s all I know about it,” Neeson told Variety. “I just laughed my leg off when I saw ‘The Hangover, I was shooting in Berlin earlier this year and rented it on the hotel TV.”

“The Hangover Part II,” the sequel to last year’s massively successful “The Hangover,” is confirmed for a May 2011 release.
