Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do,” which got off to a roaring start at pop radio, began to slow in the past few weeks.
Last week’s performance seemed particularly concerning. “Look” posted a mere 0.4% gain in week-over-week airplay, and actually spent much of the week in the negative.
Given that the song was still more than 3000 spins away from #1, posting very modest airplay gains and facing an imminent leapfrog threat from Portugal. The Man’s “Feel It Still,” some began to question whether #1 was in the cards for Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do.”
Those skeptics just received a reminder to never doubt the power of Taylor Swift and her Big Machine/Republic team.
Thanks to a massive week-over-week airplay gain (coupled with a massive loss for last week’s top songs), “Look What You Made Me Do” reaches #1 on this week’s Mediabase pop radio airplay chart.
Up three places, “Look” takes #1 on the strength of the ~16,246 spins it received during the October 8-14 tracking week.
This week’s spin count tops last week’s mark by a whopping 2,076 plays. That actually ranks as this week’s greatest pop airplay gain.
“Look” becomes the ninth pop radio #1 for Swift. The superstar previously topped the chart with “Love Story,” “You Belong With Me,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” “Style,” “Bad Blood,” and “Wildest Dreams.”
Liam Payne’s “Strip That Down (featuring Quavo),” last week’s #1, falls to #2 this week. It received ~15,191 spins (-2,709).
Portugal. The Man’s “Feel It Still” rises two spots to #3 with ~14,464 spins (+553), while Charlie Puth’s “Attention” drops one place to #4 with ~14,359 spins (-229).
Down two places, Niall Horan’s “Slow Hands” takes #5 with ~13,354 spins (-2,434).
