Alessia Cara’s “Here” Takes Early Lead in Pop Radio Airplay Race

Alessia Cara [ABC]

With the first day of the January 17-23 tracking week in the books, Alessia Cara’s “Here” is leading the pop radio airplay race.

Cara’s breakthrough hit received 2,430 pop radio spins on Sunday, January 17. Up 5.9% from the previous Sunday’s total, the count positions “Here” at #1 on Mediabase’s building pop airplay chart.

With six days still remaining in the tracking week, it is far too early to make any definitive projections about this week’s official chart.

One can, however, acknowledge that “Here” has a very real chance of claiming the #1 spot.

Selena Gomez’ “Same Old Love” and Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” which are respectively #2 and #3 on the building chart, are both decelerating. Since they are already behind an accelerating “Here,” they will doubtfully challenge Cara’s song for #1 on the official chart.

While Justin Bieber’s #4 “Love Yourself” is accelerating, it is unlikely to close the gap this week (1,976 spins, +20.3% on day one).

— Alessia Cara’s “Here” was #3 on this past week’s official Mediabase airplay chart. It reached #1 at the rhythmic format last month.
