Foo Fighters’ “Congregation” Claims #1 at Rock; Modest Mouse Still Rules Alternative

For the third consecutive week, a new song rises to the #1 spot on the Mediabase active rock radio chart.

Two weeks ago, it was Papa Roach’s “Face Everything and Rise.” Last week, it was Halestorm’s “Apocalyptic.” This week, the #1 position falls to Foo Fighters’ “Congregation.”

“Congregation,” the second single from the band’s “Sonic Highways,” earns #1 on the strength of its 1,910 tracking week spins. The aforementioned “Apocalyptic,” which commanded 1,723 plays during the March 15-21 tracking period, slips to #2 this week.

“Something from Nothing,” the predecessor to “Congregation,” spent multiple weeks at #1.

Other top 5 active rock songs: The Pretty Reckless’ “Follow Me Down” (#3, 1,681 spins), The Offspring’s “Coming for You” (#4, 1,538 spins), Papa Roach’s “Face Everything and Rise” (#5, 1,382 spins).

— While active rock saw its throne shift hands, the alternative radio format does not see a changing of the guard. Thanks to its 2,531 tracking week spins, Modest Mouse’s “Lampshades on Fire” earns a third week atop the Mediabase alternative chart.

Other top five songs: Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance” (#2, 2,100 spins), AWOLNATION’s “Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)” (#3, 2,091 spins), Mumford & Sons’ “Believe” (#4, 1,966 spins) and Robert DeLong’s “Long Way Down” (#5, 1,965 spins).
