It took “Salem” just three episodes to cast a spell on executives of WGN America. The cable network announced Monday that the original drama will be back for a second season.
“At WGN America, we are committed to delivering compelling, brand-defining programming rich with fascinating characters and ‘Salem’ has done just that,” said WGN America’s Matt Cherniss. “Brannon Braga, Adam Simon, the talented cast and our great partners at Fox 21 have opened up an intriguing world that has captivated viewers. We look forward to bringing more great storytelling, scares and surprises to viewers as the saga unfolds.”
Per WGN America’s release, the first two episodes of “Salem” attracted an average audience of 1.7 million Live+3 viewers. 806,000 fell in the coveted adults 18-49 demographic.
While the show’s audience fell considerably after the series premiere, it remained impressive enough to earn the quick renewal.
“I could not be more thrilled or more proud of our cast, writers and crew who made this show come alive,” said Brannon Braga. “The fans have been fantastic and we plan to continue keeping them on the edge of their seats.”
