“Descendants 3” was a strong live+same-day performer, drawing the best ratings for any television broadcast this past Friday night.

It is also proving resonant with DVR viewers.

Per a Disney Channel press release, the initial “Descendants 3” broadcast drew 8.43 million viewers on a live+3 basis. As 4.59 million viewers watched the premiere Friday night, the other 3.84 million watched the movie via DVR on either Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

Disney also trumpets the movie’s success among youth demographic, noting was the highest-rated cable broadcast with kids 6-11 and youth 9-14 since “Descendants 2.”

But while it may have been particularly dominant with children, it still attracted a sizable young adult audience. On a live+3 basis, “Descendants 3” attracted 1.7 million women 18-49.
