Hot 100: Katy Perry’s “This is How We Do” Debuts at #88

The fifth single from Katy Perry’s “PRISM” is officially a member of Billboard’s Hot 100.

“This is How We Do,” that song, debuts at a modest #88 on this week’s edition of the chart. It is the fifth-highest debut following Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang” (#6), Maroon 5’s “It Was Always You” (#45), Maddie and Tae’s “Girl in a Country Song” (#71) and Hilary Duff’s “Chasing the Sun” (#79).

Not yet a fixture at any radio format, “This is How We Do” primarily relied on the mid-week official video release to garner points for the Hot 100. That reality assured it would not make a blockbuster bow on this week’s Hot 100, but it obviously does not change the fact that a number like 88 and Katy Perry are not typically seen together.

“This is How We Do” is striving to erase the disappointment of previous single “Birthday,” which peaked at #17 on the Hot 100.

“PRISM” also featured an underwhelming performer in second single “Unconditionally,” which never ascended past #14. First single “Roar” and third single “Dark Horse (featuring Juicy J)” both, however, reached #1.
