Echosmith’s “Cool Kids,” Mr. Probz’ “Waves” Score at NYC Radio

Echosmith by Jonathan Weiner

Neither Echosmith’s “Cool Kids” nor Mr. Probz’ “Waves” ranked as one of pop radio’s most-added songs this week.

Both, however, landed at key New York City-area stations.

Added by nine monitored Mediabase stations this week, “Cool Kids” scored a pivotal add from New York’s Z100. Support from that station helped songs like Kiesza’s “Hideaway,” Iggy Azalea’s “Black Widow (featuring Rita Ora)” and Rita Ora’s “I Will Never Let You Down” build momentum, and it could prove similarly instrumental in helping the Echosmith song climb the pop airplay chart.

In addition to the key New York add, “Cool Kids” also won support from Chicago’s 103.5 KISS.

The #16 song at Hot AC radio, “Cool Kids” was the 27th-most-played song on pop over the trailing seven days.

A surprisingly slow mover thus far at pop given its ample buzz and rave reviews, Mr. Probz’ “Waves” could see an improved fate in the coming weeks. The song landed at both Z100 and fellow New York pop station KTU.

The latter also threw its support behind Duke Dumont’s’ “I Got U (featuring Jax Jones).” That song failed to make a huge splash upon impact last week, but the New York-area support might help it gain some traction.
