NBC Orders “Blacklist,” “Welcome to the Family,” Cancels “Smash”

“Smash”‘s song has come to an end on NBC.

Suffering abysmal ratings in its current second season, “Smash” seemed without a prayer of renewal for next season. NBC made that pessimism official Friday, confirming that the once-acclaimed musical drama will not return for a third year.

NBC also canceled “Rock Center with Brian Williams” Friday.

On the positive side, NBC ordered some new series, including James Spader drama”Blacklist,” which reportedly earned monster feedback from test audiences, and comedies “Night Shift” and “Welcome to the Family.”
