“The Kids are All Right” Claims Best Picture at Golden Globe Awards

In a year that provided great debate about how the Hollywood Foreign Press Association defines “comedy/musical” for the purpose of its Golden Globe Awards, it was a dramedy and textbook “best picture” candidate that went home with the big award.

Prior to the broadcast Sunday, a lot of controversy had emerged over how a poorly-reviewed thriller like “The Tourist” could be in the mix for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical. “Red,” while more “on brand” with the message of the awards and definitely better-received than “The Tourist,” still seemed more action-oriented than would be expected for the category.

Ultimately, however, it was acclaimed “The Kids are All Right,” which is very likely for a Best Picture Oscar Nomination, that won the Globe. Other nominees were “Burlesque” and “Alice in Wonderland.”
