Ratings: “Sharknado 5” Falls from Last Year’s Movie

Syfy’s “Sharknado 5” endured a big year-over-year viewership loss.

Facing competition from a highly rated “Game Of Thrones” episode and perhaps waning interest in the franchise, “Sharknado 5: Global Swarming” drew markedly weaker ratings than last year’s installment.

According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, Sunday’s “Sharknado 5” premiere drew a 0.57 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 1.88 million overall viewers.

The 2016 edition (“Sharknado: The 4th Awakens”) scored a 0.82 rating and 2.77 million viewers on July 31, 2016.

In terms of live+same-day ratings, this year’s film was the weakest performer since the original.

Granted, the ratings are still respectable by cable TV standards. Sunday’s premiere was the day’s #8 cable original in adults 18-49.
