Just before “Hairspray Live!” goes live, select NBC stations will air a pre-show hosted by stars Kristin Chenoweth and Sean Hayes.
NBC confirms that “Countdown To Hairspray Live!” will air on participating NBC affiliates from 7:30-8PM ET/PT on December 7. The special will lead into the 8PM ET broadcast of the actual live musical.
“From the backlot of the world famous Universal Studios Hollywood, Chenoweth and Hayes will give audiences one-of-a-kind backstage access to the fun and fast-paced world of ‘Hairspray Live,'” says NBC. “Beginning with the first open casting call to the final rehearsal, the special will explore what it takes to create a live television musical event.”
It will explore all facets of the production — from costume and set design, to choreography, to last-minute cast preparations.
The special will also showcase several viewing parties that are being hosted by NBC affiliates in Baltimore, Houstion, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Salt Lake City.
In addition to Chenoweth and Hayes, “Hairspray Live!” stars Harvey Fierstein, Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande, Martin Short, Derek Hough, Dove Cameron, Garrett Clayton, Ephraim Sykes, Shahadi Wright Joseph, newcomer Maddie Baillio, and special guest stars Andrea Martin, Billy Eichner and Rosie O’Donnell.
