Insofar as neither show drew a big audience, the specific ratings for Monday’s editions of “UnREAL” and “Devious Maids” should not be applauded.
One can, however, applaud the shows for avoiding big drops on Independence Day. “UnREAL” was down slightly in the adults 18-49 demographic but actually up in total viewership, while “Devious Maids” was down modestly in both.
According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, Monday’s “UnREAL” drew a 0.21 adults 18-49 rating and 0.55 million total viewers. The 0.21 rating trails last week’s 0.23 but the 0.55 million viewer mark trails the 0.53 million sum drawn last week.
Lead-in “Devious Maids” posted a 0.29 adults 18-49 rating and 0.94 million total viewers. The numbers are down slightly from the 0.31 and 0.96 million posted by last week’s broadcast but above the previous week’s series lows of 0.26 and 0.82 million.
While conventional wisdom is to applaud the two shows for holding up on Independence Day, an argument can of course be made that the two series benefited from the lack of notable nightly competition. The 8PM portion of NBC’s July 4 coverage (1.5) and the 10PM portion of USA Network’s WWE RAW (1.0) were the only original programs to even reach a 1.0 in adults 18-49.
