Last week’s one-hour installment, which benefited from hype over a gamechanger and (to an extent) a prematurely released interview confirming Derek’s death, drew a 2.8 with 9.55 million viewers.

While the performance was above average for the current “Grey’s” season, it did not match the marks set by last week’s episode. Hyped as a gamechanger, that episode featured the death of Patrick Dempsey’s Derek Shepherd.
Per fast national data, this week’s “Grey’s” drew a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating with 8.680 million viewers from 8-9PM and a 2.6 with 8.676 million from 9-10PM. Both hourly marks trail those of last week’s hourlong broadcast, which posted a 2.8 and 9.55 million viewers.
ABC’s Thursday also included “American Crime” (1.0, 3.765 million).

Driven by hype over a gamechanging event, which turned out to be the death of Patrick Dempsey’s Derek Shepherd, last week’s “Grey’s Anatomy” delivered the show’s best performance since the September season premiere.
This week’s two-hour follow-up was not quite as hot, at least as far as the overnights go, but it definitely drew a sizable audience.
Airing from 8-10PM ET, Thursday’s edition of the ABC drama drew a 7.1 overnight household rating. While down from the 7.6 garnered by last week’s 8-9PM shocker of an episode, the number is well above what the show had been averaging this season.
Details on how the show fared in adults 18-49 and total viewership will emerge by 11:30PM ET.
Despite also besting last week’s “Scandal” in the 9PM hour, and thus providing a better lead-in, “Grey’s” did not lead ABC lead-out “American Crime” to an improved performance. Down from last week’s 3.3, this week’s edition drew a 3.1 overnight household rating.
