Who is Fancy Reveal Doesn’t Help “Goodbye” on Pop Airplay Chart

When Jake “Who is Fancy” Hagood took the stage on Tuesday’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” his single “Goodbye” was already beginning to show signs of struggle at pop radio.

Tuesday’s performance, which was the first time Hagood had revealed himself as Who is Fancy, let alone played the song on television, did not end that struggle.

“Goodbye” has actually lost a sizable amount of airplay in the aftermath of his April 7 performance. Down to #40 on Friday’s rolling edition of the Mediabase pop radio airplay chart, it is on track to fall out of the Top 40 by the same Mediabase publishes its official chart on Sunday.

According to Mediabase, “Goodbye” earned 1,477 spins during the period between April 3 and April 9.

It had garnered 1,700 spins between March 31 and April 6 (the seven days prior to Tuesday’s performance) and 1,670 spins between April 1 and April 7 (the seven day period that ended on Tuesday).

Launched earlier this year, “Goodbye” ascended into the official Top 40 fairly quickly. It subsequently advanced into the Top 30 with little struggle. A brick wall then emerged to halt the song’s progress, and Tuesday’s performance was evidently not what it needed to break through that wall.

The performance did generate buzz. It did, alongside a discount to $0.69, thrust “Goodbye” into the Top 30 on the all-genre iTunes single sales chart. It did not, however, reinvigorate the song’s presence at pop radio.

Per Republic, “Goodbye” will formally impact the hot adult contemporary format on April 20. A struggle at pop does not preclude a successful run at Hot AC, but it surely serves to dampen confidence about the song’s prospects.
