Is one of pop music’s burning questions about to be answered?
The lineup for next Tuesday’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” advertises “Who is Fancy” as the episode’s musical guest.
While the use of a mask or alternative bait-and-switch tactic is always possible, the performance confirmation suggests the mysterious artist known as Fancy could be gearing to reveal himself to the world.
Over the past few months, Republic has been promoting a song called “Goodbye” at mainstream radio. The label has referred to Fancy, the male artist behind the song, as a joint Scott Borchetta/Scooter Braun signing, but it has revealed neither a photo of the artist nor specific details about his identity.
In the spirit of mystery, official billing for the song actually goes to “Who is Fancy.” That is how the artist is formally credited at radio, on streaming sites and on iTunes, and it is the question Republic wants fans asking.
It, apparently, is also a question that could be answered on April 7.
Interview guests Louis CK and Sophia Bush are also scheduled for that night’s edition of the NBC talk show. Full “Tonight Show” listings follow:
