— As was reported earlier this weekend, the assumption most within WWE had was that Undertaker was going to win the World Championship at WWE Hell in a Cell.
That assumption proved true, as the Dead Man defeated CM Punk to capture the gold in the pay-per-view telecast’s opening match. According to F4WOnline.com, the decision was quite unpopular with many in the lockeroom.
While Undertaker, who is one of the business’ most respected veterans, seemed to be positioned for an inevitable victory in his title feud with CM Punk, the feeling is that WWE had not yet maximized CM Punk’s ability to get over. The belt represented a tool to keep Punk on top as he developed as a bona fide WWE Superstar; though he will likely remain at the top of the card, not having the belt–especially since booking made everyone expect him to lose anyway–puts him in a less ideal situation.
Plus, with Undertaker not working a regular road schedule and with rumors that his body is still not 100%, there are also logistical questions about his title victory.
The early word was that more news was to come on the matter, as the decision to book an Undertaker victory was the talk of the industry Sunday night.
The DEAD MAN deserves it for the career he’s had but CM PUNK has really come into his own. It was RANDY ORTON’S night though as he became only the 2nd heel in over 2 years to win the WWE championship fair and square. The better man won in HELL IN A CELL!!!!!!!!!!!
